      THE GETTY CENTER

THE GETTY CENTER - LOS ANGELES

We’ll head north toward Los Angeles, in our spacious and luxurious Sprinter Van, arriving at the Getty Center.  Our tram will wind it’s way to the top of the hill where we’ll arrive and marvel at this architectural wonder designed by architect Richard Meier.  Be prepared to walk in such class and luxury, over grounds and walls that have been anointed with 80,000 year old travertine stone.  The views of Bel-Air, Santa Monica and Downtown LA are inspiring.  Walk past flowing waters and fountains and gardens that are sculptures themselves.  The central garden was created by renowned artist Robert Irwin and lies at the heart of the Getty.

Welcoming over a million visitors a year, the Getty Center is the flagship destination of the J. Paul Getty Trust and home to the Central Garden, the Research Library at the Getty Research Institute, and the J. Paul Getty Museum's collection of Western art from the Middle Ages to the present.  The Getty is certainly worthy of history’s first recorded billionaire, J. Paul.  Enjoy the Museum’s collection of European drawings, paintings, illuminated manuscripts, sculpture, decorative arts and American and European photographs from the 19th century to the present.  A modernist hilltop campus designed by Richard Meier, the Getty Center features expansive open spaces and panoramic views of Los Angeles.  The Central Garden lies at the heart of the Getty Center site.  Tours are available as well as a variety of dining options, including a restaurant, two cafes, a picnic area, and several coffee carts.
